Digital Distance Relaying

author

Abstract:

Increasing interest is being shown in the use of microprocessor for protection, switching and data acquisition required in modern high voltage substations. One of the most difficult functions to fulfill is that of transmission line distance protection employing samples of the voltage and current waveform taken from high voltage transducer equipment at the usual relaying point. This paper examines and compares different digital algorithms suitable for distance measurement, with particular reference to their accuracy and speed of calculation.

A Novel Algorithm for Digital Distance Relaying

Distance relays are used to protect EHV and HV Transmission lines. Over the past decades many algorithms have emerged for digital distance relays. These are based on the calculation of the transmission line impedance from the relaying to fault points. In this paper a novel method for digital distance relaying is proposed. In the method the tracking procedure is implemented. The method uses the ...

Hybrid Adaptive Algorithm to Fast Distance Relaying

This paper presents the design of a hybrid scheme of wavelet transforms and an adaptive Fourier filtering technique for on line fault detection and phasor estimation to fast distance protection of transmission lines. The wavelet transform is used as a signal processing tool. The sampled voltage and current signals at the relay location are decomposed using wavelet transform-Multi Resolution Ana...

Distance Education in the Digital Era and Connectivism Theory

Background: With the arrival of the industrial Century, the educational system changed and different forms of education, including distance Education were created. Firstly, distance education based on traditional learning theories, but because that these theories are not able to respond and solve the challenges facing the education system in the modern century connectivism theory was creat...

Decision tree based fault detection and classification in distance relaying

This paper presents a new approach for fault detection and classification in transmission line using Decision Tree (DT). The DT based fault detection algorithm uses 1/4th cycle data of fault currents from fault inception, to generate the optimal decision tree for fault detection. Similarly, the DT based classification algorithm takes half cycle data from fault inception of three phase currents ...
